Nice one. I've been on holiday somewhere where I saw a tree full of pairs of shoes - (maybe it was greece? I remember it was warm) - I thought it was an end of college ritual. maybe I'll find the photo one day.
Actually there are lots of examples on Google Image, including at http://www.roadtripamerica.com/roadside/shoetrees2.htm - where there is also an underwear tree.
And, shoes in trees should not be confused with treeshoes.
